today i started working with cellanimator, an animation program that makes vector grafix for the futuresplash plugin for netscape.
these grafix have the advantage of being scalable without loss of resolution and much smaller file size for anything made in quicktime, moviestar or as a gif animation.
i experimented to see if their claims were true.
i exported movies from the animations in quicktime, gif, and futuresplash, i also tried moviestar, and converting quicktime clips into gif animations via gifbuilder with interesting and unexpected results.
i made two animations in celanimator, iwasborn and centreof universe, two clips i had previously made for my cd rom in logomotion and premiere.
237centu.gif, output as gif from celanimator - poor quality, dragging image.
187centu.mov, output as qt from celanimator, then qt internet tool - could not get it to mount in netscape.
182centu8.mov, output as qt from celanimator, then in moviestar, then qt internet tool. - still didn't load in netscape.
141cent.gif, put qt movie into gifbuilder - not too bad, but smaller image size.
50born.mov, output as qt from celanimator, then qt internet tool. - didn't mount.
50born8.mov, output as qt from celanimator, then in moviestar, then qt internet tool. - didn't mount.
44iborn.gif, output as gif from celanimator .
39born.gif, put qt movie into gifbuilder.
6centu.spl, output as futuresplash file, .spl, - great clear animation, loading instantly.
6iborn.spl, output as futuresplash file, .spl, - great clear animation, loading instantly.
i now have to test them in html documents, my intention being to reproduce the whole of "reality is a construct", a seven minute piece i made for cd-rom about the story of i growing up and constructing various realities as it grows.
it will go from page to page with a cellanimation/gif file option plus a fast start quicktime or netscape liveaudio dialog.
so i'm just going to dissect the whole movie into pages which load quickly. i can even work out a random option so that you don't have to travel through the story in a chronometrically linear direction.

if you have downloaded futuresplashcheck out page 1 of "reality is a construct"

or check out the quicktime version of the same page, the futuresplash loads faster, gives larger clearer images, smoother frame rates, looks better.
