friday, 7/6/96
darwin high school for a performance in the library for about 120 students who had chosen to attend, and two workshops for about twenty students each, i did the list poem and showed some cyberpoetry. met susan cameron who gave me a video of the performance poetry competition she organises for high school students.
there were a few greek boys in the workshops who seemed to be there because of our common ethnicity not their interest in writing.
michael had organised an extra school for me at tinanmin, out past palmerston, for last period friday, the horror gig!!! we arrived, it was a large gym you could not hear yourself for the air conditioning, there was no amplification and it looked ominously bad. but it was magic the kids were attentive, had read my poems, were glad i was there and we had a good time.
met marion corbett a blast from the past, 15 years past, out at tinamin, it's a small world after all.
we got shown around the school farm, met the buffalos and bulls, sunk a few beers.
at night i was invited to parliament house for the launch of 'in their own image' effie alexakis's photographic exhibition, which was a part of glenti sponsored by the nt govrnment.saturday, 8/6/96
this morning i had a presentation of cyberpoetry for the english teachers association nt branch. i was asked to come back in july 1997 for their national conference. in the evening there wasan official glenti dance i had to attend and it turned out to bee fun, the gladiators were sitting at the same table as me and it was interesting to watch their performance from close range.
the greek band from perth had this heavy metal lead guitariust that played bouzouki style solo breaks with effects pedals on full wah! wild fusion music.
